Chiropody & Podiatry

Training involves examining the structure and function of the foot, and its effect on the rest of the body. Treatment is to optimise function and stabilisation.

The emphasis is on gentle release of foot pain wherever possible. This includes diagnosis and treatment of foot complaints such as corns, calluses, verrucae and nail problems. You may require a full biomechanical examination (for further details, click here) and orthotics can be prescribed where appropriate.

Corns and callouses - which build up due to both internal and external forces and pressures being applied to the foot - can be removed. Verrucae are one of the most common virus infections of the skin and seem to be associated with swimming baths, sports centres and gymnasiums. They can be treated using a variety of methods, including chemical application and freezing.

The normal development of the toenails depends of an adequate blood and nerve supply. Regular nail growth can be affected by interference with either of these, or by other factors such as trauma, infection, nutritional deficiencies and certain skin diseases. Incorrect cutting may also lead to some painful conditions such as ingrowing toenail, which can be treated effectively by a state retgistered chiropodist under local anaesthetic.

Our state registered Chiropodist/Podiatrist Nichola Stevens is experienced in sports-related injuries, as well as general foot ailments and diabetes.
